At 6935 yards from the back tees, located an hour northwest of downtown, L.A in Moorpark, off the Reagan, then north on Walnut Canyon. The course was designed by Gil Hanse and Geoff Shackelford, and opened in 2002. Minimalist design that plays through environmentally protected areas and washes with rolling fairways that are forgiving enough. There's plenty of sand, conventional, and waste area that line the course and protect the greens. The greens are large, and will accept the run up shot, are fast and undulating. Front side's a nice warm-up for the tougher back. It's a good solid course, gets heavy play, nice views, and a reasonable price.

Rustic Canyon is one great golf course. It really is what golf can and should be all about. It is more fun to play than golf really ought to be. It is devilish, rewarding, frustrating, punishing, joyful, peaceful, all in one, because it tests and rewards every part of this game - mental, physical and spiritual . There were risk/reward choices on seemingly every shot. Man that was fun.....

We received excellent service from the starter and ranger. You had to plan your shots but you also had places where you could take chances. The course was in great shape overall. There were a couple of damaged bunkers but nothing that would take away from the playability of the course. I would recommend this course to anyone of any skill level.

Played here Monday while I was out in LA for a conference. While this isn't going to make my "Top 10 Ever Played" list, it's maybe in the top 50 I've played. It's very traditional in terms of design and puts a premium on shotmaking to take advantage of the angles to the hole and the contours of the greens. The course itself is very "no-frills", especially by LA standards. Just $45 to play with a cart and modest pro shop and grill. While the fairways weren't carpet and the greens weren't pristine, I think the conditioning was fair and you could hit shots. The biggest problem I ran into was the speed of the greens. If you are ever in the LA area, this would seem to me the best golfing value by FAR.

Don't miss Rustic Canyon. It's a testament to naturalism and strategy, and one of the better courses you'll ever play. it is THAT good. It is awesome... playing it monday to thursday it will cost you 37 $, that's one of the best values ANYWHERE. Now the bad news, it will be crowded and slow

For the most part the course plays fairly open with some holes fairways running together, even using bunkers that double as hazards for more than one hole. Good reasonably priced course if you choose to walk. Possible to go low on, depending on the degree the winds are blowing. Either way, it is always in great shape. The greens are fast and tough, local knowledge is useful.

Right now, the course is in great conditions. The greens are actually rolling the speed they should. In the past they have been extremely slow. The only issue I have with the course is that every time I play the course somehow they charge me more than what they tell me on the phone.

Nice golf course, challenging with some nice views and scenery. Greens weren't in the best of shape when we played, didn't looked like they had been topdressed. Pace of play was OK, and it was a good value.
