Royal Manchester is a brand new course, about 20 minutes north of York on river bottom land in Mt. Wolf, right on the Susquehanna River. Hard to believe anyone would opening a golf course in the recession, but guess it was already in process for almost 10 years with a series of course management companies. The layout is a true links design with mounded fairways, tall fescue grass lining, greens which are open and accommodating in the front to the bump and run, and generally a fun course to play. From the championship blue tees it's 6,962 yards, but has four other tees as short as short as 5,078 yards. We've played it twice the weekend of their grand opening, and will be back. Rates are lower during the week, and in the afternoons, the weekends are a little pricey. The course is rough around the edges, about what you'd expect for a new course, but it has potential to be a good course in the area. take I-83 south to either the Newberrytown or Strinestown exits. Follow the smokestack at Brunner Island to Manchester, about 20 minutes from Harrisburg.

Where to begin?? I saw the course advertised in the golf guide and was excited to play a new course. Lesson learned, wait a couple years. First, this is way over priced. If you are going to charge full price then be fully functional. No range, water fall/features are taped off with yellow tape, distance markings are not accurate. Second, the greens are their best feature--large but somewhat slow. The fairways are awful---weeds, clover, rough areas are abundant. Hitting a ball in the fairway might mean hitting some rocks. Lastly, no ranger. Pace of play is super slow, playing on a weekday took me 5 hours and it wasn't even busy. I can't imagine what a weekend is like. Also, bring your own food and drink is you plan to play Monday or Tuesday- they close their restaurant at lunch time. Give this place a couple years before you spend the money to play it. With time is could be a nice track to play.

Love the design, friendly staff, fun course and scenic. Cons--- 1. Fairways are awful---clover, weeds, bare spots, even stones/rocks (bad lies are common in the fairway) 2. Greens---big, look nice, but SLOW 3. Yellow tape around ponds and waterfall looks like a crime scene 4. No Driving Range---was to open in fall, then spring, now summer, who knows....how hard it would it be to have turf tee boxes open? 5. Check often for the current price---their prices (food and golf) change like the weather 6. Bunkers need the edges to but cut/trimmed 7. Need wider fringe along greens (18 inches off the green and you may not find your ball) 8. Fescue is nice! Alpha and other weeds are not---kill the weeds. I paid $59 to walk on weekend. Disappointing doesn't express my frustration enough. I played the course last fall and it was much better, I hoped it would have improved. It will be a long time till I go back.

Played this course in the late summer and fall of 2010 several times and really enjoyed layout and condition of the course. Came back to play in May of 2011 and found that the driving range is still not open. Additionally, I found the condition of the course to be bad to say the least. The fairways have been over run with clover and weeds and the greens were very slow and had tons of unfixed ballmarks. I lost 3 balls in the fairway due to how bad the clover infestation is currently at this course. What gives with all the clover??

Relatively new course, and surprised at how well it was conditioned when we played last week, especially this early in the year. The staff was helpful and friendly, conditions, especially the greens were in good shape, all at a reasonable rate. Not the most difficult of layouts, a bit of an ego builder, just what the golf doctor ordered this early in the year!

Absolutely shocked at the conditions here for such a new golf course. While a little rough around the edges, they were overall excellent, even the greens. It definitely plays like a links, with hard fairways and the constant breeze. It’s a very interesting layout, with nice views for miles from the plateau setting. Great par 3s, from the all-carry 2nd to the downhill tee-shots at the 11th and 15th. Needs a few seasons to mature, but I'll be back monthly to see how it's coming along
