Rotunda is a planned community that's been around forever, and is southwest of Port Charlotte about 30 minutes, nothing fancy. There's four courses here, three with 18 holes, the fourth Long Marsh with 27. The Palms was designed by D.J. DeVictor, and plays to 6,511 yards from the black tees, more of a parkland style of layout with palm tree lined fairway, mostly flat, water, and sand. The Hills is in the Oakland Hills community, and has a lot of water and sand, fairly typical Florida style of course layout. The Links is in the Cape Haze area, and is an executive style course, par 63 with 9 par three holes and 9 par four holes, and designed by John LaFoy, playing to 4,197 yards from the gold tees. Long Marsh is the best course here in my opinion, the fairways have a little roll to them, parkland style, fair off the tee, a good amount of bunkering, and nice size greens. It was designed by Ted McAnlis, and can play up to 7,100 yards, depending on which nine you choose, all the way down to 5,267 yards from the forward tees. There are no hidden hazards or blind shots and the only water carries are risk-reward opportunities. Just keep it in the fairway or you could get in trouble. It was easy to lose balls in the thick rough off the fairways and it does have water and marsh. The course winds through housing, and it's laid out a bit awkwardly, but, it does have a nice mix of yardages and terrain, pines and oaks mixed with marsh. If you're looking for value around the area, Rotunda offers a variety of courses at reasonable rates, with Long Marsh being the best. If you're looking for upscale, try Riverwood, about 10 minutes up the road to Port Charlotte.
