Rochelle is 150 miles west of Cheyenne and 300 miles east of Salt Lake City in Rawlins, Wyoming right off the I-80 exit. It's unbelievable to find a golf course of this quality in the middle of Wyoming, let alone in this terrain and quality of earth. It was the gift of Curt and Marian Rochelle, local sheep ranchers who became wealthy and decided to donate something to the city. The town fathers met, and thought a golf course would do, so the city donated the land and the Rochelles paid for the course construction. It was designed by Ken Kavanaugh, is at an altitude of 6800 feet, and is not great land to grow grass on. The course has some good elevation change, and some magnificent views. There's only two holes which run parallel, and the rest of the routing is up and down and across the rough land. There's essentially no rough, just grass fairways bordered by sand, sagebrush, and scrub bushes. It can play to a massive 7925 yards all the way down to 5706 yards. It's a great find and a great value, and if you're on I-80, here's a good reason to stop for 4 hours.

Neat find out in the middle of Wyoming, but the conditions left a little to be desired, still a nice respite from the drive across the state.
