Riverside is on the north side of Janesville on Washington Street routed along the River. The course originally opened in 1924, but was redesigned and an additional nine holes added by Robert Bruce Harris in 1946, and plays to a par of 72, at 6,508 yards from the tips (rating 70.1/slope 123). It plays to a par of 71 at 6,193 yards (69.3/120) from the whites. An interesting feature is there's a still-in-use set of railroad tracks that runs through a section of the course. The course bunkering is one of its main defenses–many of the course’s sand traps are deep and irregularly shaped, and are close to the greens. The holes are straightforward out and back, lined by trees, most of which don't allow for a mis-placed tee ball. The greens are small and mostly oval shaped, with plenty of bunkers. It's an excellent layout for a muni, well conditioned, and very reasonable rates.
