River Valley is in Carbondale, about halfway between Aspen and Glenwood Springs. The course is just beautiful, routed along the Crystal River, and a residential development, and designed by Jay Morrish. Good variety of holes, some on what was once pasture land, others right along the banks of the Crystal River, with the rest through the sage brush and pinion pines. There's plenty of challenge with the course, wetlands, tall prairie grasses bordering the fairways, and a little elevation change. Definitely one of the better courses in the area, and the greens fees we though were reasonable for the quality of the layout and facilities. It plays to 6,950 yards, 133 slope, 73.7 course rating from the ranch tees, with the shortest tees at around 5,000 yards. Beautiful setting and views, I would highly recommend.

The course was easily walkable through the flattish valley routing with great views of Mount Sopris. Forgiving off the tee with plenty of room, just off the fairway is sort of a desert scrub brush and tall fescue type of grasses with the Crystal River in play on a couple of holes. Nice setting for golf, except for some of the homes along the course, but reasonably priced for the Aspen area, which is about 30 minutes.
