Rivanna is southeast of Charlottesville, exit 136 off I-64, then south a few miles to Palmyra. The course is part of a real estate development that's been slow to take off, and rates on weekends are high, but during the week, very reasonable. It's a parkland style layout through the trees. The course was originally Laurel Ridge, designed by Brian Smith, but changed to Rivanna with the real estate development, and the course re-designed by Ed Carton, playing to a par 71, 6,375 yards, 126 slope and 70.9 course rating. Very difficult course, sloping and hilly fairways, small, elevated and undulating greens, tight fairway landing zones, need to play it a couple of times to understand the layout and appreciate the design. Conditions have suffered a bit in the last few years.

Rivanna is the best conditioned course in Charlottesville area right now. Every part of the course was in great shape, and our shots sat up perfectly on the Bermuda fairways. This place is definitely worth the drive.
