Located southeast of Vegas in Henderson on the foothills of the Black Mountain Range, the course is affiliated with the Rio Hotel. It was designed by Rees Jones, and can play tough at 7200 yards from the tips, handicap rating of 75.7, slope 142. Overall, very well designed course with great views overlooking Las Vegas and The Strip. It was in great shape for this time of year. greens were fast but held good only complaint was lack of sand in most bunkers. Great layout with imagination needed around the greens. and good use of elevation changes. Only paid $59 dollars with local ID. whereas non residents pay $150. After playing 4 days in Vegas during late February we realized Rio Secco was in great shape in comparison to many other LV courses. Great layout and a great conditioning. We would definitely go back.

Like most courses in this area, the greens fees are astronomical. Very nice practice facility with the Vegas strip in the background. We finished up and proceeded to the first hole. Rio Secco features 6 holes through steep canyons, 6 holes on a plateau overlooking the city and 6 holes in a broad desert wash. I believe 17, 18, and 1 - 4 are on the plateau; 5 - 10 are in a broad desert wash; and 11 - 16 are cut through steep canyons. There is no room for error at this course. Basically you have fairway, mounding or canyon walls on either side, and desert beyond that. Par threes are all over canyons or water, and the final two holes are par fives. All in all a nice course in good shape with plenty of eye candy. The canyon holes were my favorites and all greens were fantastic. The approach shots to both 1 and 18 greens featured the strip some 14 miles away in the background The clubhouse is nice and the staff are courteous.

I felt it was long for the sake of being long. Given the ball carries so much in Vegas, it wasn't an issue to score well due to the length...but it just made the lengthy shots repetitive and boring. The greens were dull and without character or undulation. There's some dramatic holes, but overall a bit goofy. I would NOT pay top dollar to play again.

Probably one of the toughest golf courses in the Las Vegas area, always challenging desert style of course. You're either on the golf course or in the desert scrub. Well conditioned for this time of year, they've also got some low summer rates still going on, worth checking out.
