Rifle Creek is 40 minutes west of Glenwood Springs, off I-70 at CO 13 at Rifle, north for 5 miles at the Rifle Gap State Park. The course is tucked into a green patch in the Rifle Creek valley in the midst of the Grand Hogback Range, very scenic golf course and setting, and views for miles. It's a short layout at 5,797 yards, par 72 from the back tees, 60.7/115, and is very playable and fair. The front nine is a more traditional design with scattered trees along the fairways with some water/wetlands in play, while the back side is more target golf through some narrow fairways with some elevation, and much more character than the front. The course has been around since the early 1960's, designed by Dick Phelps, a little expensive on weekends, but never all that crowded, so it's easy to get around in under four hours.
