Reay is about two hours beyond Dornoch, and 2 1/2 hours from Inverness. James Braid designed the first 12 holes here in 1893, and all holes provide view to the sea, Sandside Bay, to Beinn Ratha' and and across Pentland Firth to Orkney. It is said to be the most northerly seaside links course on the British mainland. The geographical location means the course is very rarely closed even throughout a highland winter it was a great delight to visit Reay Golf Club and admire a links that is as natural as any that I have ever seen. In a different location, it would enjoy wide acclaim. It is a wonderful example of a classic links with typically wiry turf, a fast running character, on classic linksland. The route here winds along the cliffs of Scotland's northeast coast, near villages named Lybster, Ulbster, Camster, Badlipster, Bilbster, Scrabster, Mybster and Shebster. There's no one in the Reay clubhouse, so you deposit £25 in the "honesty box" It's a wonderful golf course that you must make an effort in reaching, but once here, a special treat to play.

Reay is really one of the last true hidden gems. Super course with a great atmosphere to it and well worth the trip up north especially if combined with Wick.

A course that will surprise you. If you in the Highlands this is a nice stop. The views are terrific for this links course and there are some challenging holes.

The pace of play at Reay was excellent, there was no one on the course...our entire round! The course overall was in good condition, had some strong holes through and around the dunes, but mostly a basic links course, with some penal rough I might add. It's a scenic routing for a couple of holes along the beach, but otherwise the sea is not within sight. Great value for the quality of the course at 25 GBP. We played it on the way from Durness to Wick, and it was a good diversion and enjoyable round.

One of James Braids best designs very natural.hard start back nine bit easier.from fife but don't enjoy playing many courses more than this.best hidden gem in Scotland. A traditional links course with lots of character, excellent setting in the sandside estate, well kept greens and fairways and great fun to play. A great course and a definite must play for all golfers in the north of Scotland
