This golf course has stunning views from the clubhouse and the course of the surrounding countryside and the Mediterranean. There's also a very nice hotel on site, but we didn't stay here, nor is it required to be a guest here to play the golf course. The course is located within a 10 minute drive from the local beaches, and a 40 minute drive from Alicante airport. It's south of Torrevieja on the urbanisation of Lomas de Campoamor between Cartagena and Alicante on the Costa Blanca. Campoamor was one of the first courses that I played in the area on holiday and was struck by the stunning views as you make your way around this undulating course. It was built on a former country estate and surrounded by countryside, with the course routed over hilly land, parkland style with tree lined fairways, wide enough so that you won't spoil your game. The course is situated about 100 metres above sea level, and is bordered to the south by the Tagus-Segura canal, and was very windy the day we played. The course in long even from the yellow tees at 6,198 metres (6,818 yards) with numerous right to left dog-leg holes on sloping and undulating fairways which made for a challenging round, a second time around would have helped with the local knowledge. Thought it was a challenging course, especially if you're off the fairway in the heavy rough, and on approach to the well guarded greens, a number of them elevated. The par 5's offer limited birdie opportunities, neither do the par 3's which are all over 200 metres. A real shotmaker's type of layout, nicely conditioned, greens fees were a little steep.
