The Raven at South Mountain is off I-10, west on Baseline, about 10 minutes south of the Sky Harbor Airport. Upscale golf course, conditions, service, food and beverage, all first class, at the most reasonable cost of any course of this quality in Phoenix/Scottsdale. Great golf course design, some really spectacular holes, designed by Gary Panks and David Graham in 1995 out of some cotton fields at the base of South Mountain. The course plays to 7,078 yards from the black tees, 130 slope and 72.8 course rating. The course is parkland style with pine tree-lined and mounded fairways, with multi-tiered greens that are heavily guarded by bunkers and water. The landing areas are mostly wide and forgiving, the greens large and undulating, a definite must play. If you're basing in Scottsdale it's not all that convenient, but it's a good alternative to play on your first day in town or the last. A must play however, you won't be disappointed.

This course is a must play if you are in the Phoenix area. The golf course plays like two different courses with the front nine mostly level with wide fairways to flat greens, and a good warm-up for the more difficult backside. There's some forced carries over the desert. The back nine plays into the mountains, with many holes with big elevation changes. Most of the fairways are rolling-many of the holes are of postcard quality. The back nine has water-doglegs bother left and right-uphill and downhill holes and fairways that slant both directions. This course is one of the most challenging courses I have played in the area, the backside will add a half-dozen strokes to your normal score. You will have a great time no matter what the score. Caught an early round at Raven Golf Club. Easy to get to from town. Absolutely great experience. The course is beautiful, beautifully maintained and fun to play. From the tips the yardage is 7078 with a 72.8/130 rating. Not to shabby for a desert location. We played the Championship tees at 6722 yards with a 70.5/125 slope. The course was designed by David Graham and Gary Panks (two of the best) and carries a big time 4.5 star rating from Golf Digest. It's like playing a parkland course in the middle of the desert. Fabulous desert views and vegitation, with lush fairways, large greens and plenty of pine trees. The service was top notch. Even the lunch in the grill room was very good. Priced at $110 a round including cart and practice balls, Raven is a quality value all around Flag Content
