Snowshoe is a golf and ski resort in the middle of West Virginia, west of Staunton in the Monongahela National Forest. Great golf course here, by Gary Player, plays to just over 7000 yards, and 141 slope from the tips. Beautiful and rugged mountain style layout with great elevation change, tree lined rolling and sloping fairways, and well bunkered. Nice views, excellent service in the clubhouse and the resort, and run by the same "Raven" group that has courses in Florida, Arizona, and Colorado.

Beautfiul fall day to play the Raven, leaves turning nicely, maybe one of the last days for great golf in the area. The Raven is one of my favorite courses, one worth the long drive. It has many vertical holes, and there is opportunity to lose golf balls. There is opportunity to lose LOTS of golf balls!! The fairways at Raven are not overly spacious, and they flow around corners with lots of swing and gradation. There; that covers the permissable places to hit your golf ball; assuming you actually wish to recover it. There is almost no light rough. Pretty much anything off the fairways goes into ultradense grass 8 inches to 3 feet high, bent over, and your ball simply will not be found. Raven is exciting, beautiful, and WAY TOO HARD FOR ME!!!!! Play Raven once for the sheer experience of it ..... it is gorgeous. Take lots of golf balls you don't really like. If you can stay on the fairways, this course can be had, I think. But I can't be sure because I never got much opportunity to try. *wave* goodbye to many an errant ball.
