Rancho Bernardo is between Poway and Escondido, on the east side of I-15 at Rancho Bernado Road. The resort is an old classic California style golf resort from another time which has been updated recently. The course is a traditional parkland style of course of 6631 yards, 133 slope, and 72.3 course rating. The rates are really steep here if you're from out of town, S Cal residents and JC Cards make it a bit more reasonable. The course is an original William Bell design with renovation work by Ted Robinson. It's somewhat like the resort here, an old traditional course, fairly straightforward hole design, tree lined fairways, bunkers, lakes and streams, in reasonably good condition, mostly open off the tee. There's much better courses in the San Diego area in the price range, nothing real spectacular here.

Rancho Bernardo Inn is a really fun and surprisingly forgiving golf course–if you play from the white tees, from the black or blues it will change the course dramatically. The course wass in great shape, the greens were well-maintained, lush and very fair—even a couple that were under construction. The fairways were in great shape, soft and the ball sat up well. Overall good experience, both the course and the clubhouse, with the only complaint that it was expensive.

Course was in overall great condition. Fairways, tees and rough were some of the best that I have played on in the last four or five months. Greens were also great except for the many ball marks golfers have left. I was repairing four or five marks on every green. Staff was very courteous and friendly. Price was a little steep but course layout and condition were worth it.
