Quarry Ridge is 15 minutes south of Hartford in Portland, essentially across the street from Portland Golf Course, and overlooks the Meshomasic State Forest and the Connecticut River. The course was designed by Al Zikorus and Joe Kelley and opened in 1993, and plays to 6389 yards, 124 slope from the back tees. .Interesting, challenging course with a lot of variety, in great shape, and decent rated. Not really a walkable course due to the hilly setting and distance between some of the holes. Usually you can see the Connecticut River and the hills beyond are visible from the 1st and 10th tees, nice setting.
Mostly straighforward hole design, with fairway bunkers on one hole, the 6th, and narrow fairways with rock outcroppings bordering a number of them, and a good mix of long and short holes. The greens are mid sized with some undulation, and not much in the way or character of the greenside bunkers. A few quirky holes, not the strong upscale golf course they'd have you believe on their website, but nonetheless, very passable, especially for the views.

This is course is beautiful and in excellent shape. The staff does a fantastic job in taking care of the course and the patrons who play the course. There are a lot of great golf holes on this course. Number 15 was my favorite. A high risk, high reward shot. This course is a must play.

One of my favorite courses in the area, never disappoints. Great views, challenging holes, but not overkill, great conditions, and a nice staff. Can't go wrong here. Looked like they had punched the greens in the last week or so, but they were growing in nicely.
