Quail Valley is on the south side of Missouri City, off Highway 6 at Murphy, north to El Diablo, then east a mile or so. It's the original real estate development golf course in southwest Houston, built in the early 1970's. There's two championship courses, the La Quinta and the El Dorado. From the blue tees the LaQuinta is 6,552 yards, with ratings of 72.5/136, and can play as long as 7,000 yards, or as short as5,100 yards. The El Dorado course was recently redesigned by Jeff Blume, and is the better of the two courses here, at least for the lower handicapper. From the blue tees it plays to 6,645 yards, 72.5/135, and can play as long as 6,920 yards or as short as 5,486 yards. The courses are owned and operated by the city, conditions are improving over the previous ownership, and the redesign of the El Dorado was very well done. Reasonable greens fees, although they both get a lot of play, it's a good choice for golf in the area.
