Providence Golf Club is off South Providence Road, just to the south of the Midlothian Turnpike exit off the Powhite Parkway in southwest Richmond. It's a pure golf only course without homes in play, the original course here closed in the 1980's, but was rebuilt on adjoining land and a new course was developed within some of the original holes. It was designed by Lester George, and has four tees from 4,900 yards to 6,400 yards. Our group plays from the blues at 6,100 yards, 69.1/129, and while somewhat short, there's some drivable par 4's and par 5's, but accuracy is required. The course is a parkland style of layout with water and wetlands on a few holes, tree lined fairways, and a few bunkers, mostly around the greens. Challenging, but playable layout, reasonably good conditions for the most part, nice clubhouse, restaurant and facilities. While expensive on the weekends, it's a good choice for golf in the area, and easy to get to from most anywhere.
