Promontory Golf Club

Promontory is a private golf club in a gated, upscale community with two great golf courses, a Nicklaus design and Pete Dye, and plans for three more. While private, you can book a cabin and play the Dye course, or they open it up to a few public tees times per day. We called ahead a few weeks and were able to secure a time, albeit expensive. The two courses couldn't be any more different, but the views from all over the property are expansive and stunning. The Dye course takes you on an elevation roller-coaster ride through a desert meadow on the front 9, with the back 9 taking you through sage covered mountain valleys. The Nicklaus course, in contrast has generous flat fairways, half the amount of bunkers as the Dye, but water on most of the holes. The real challenge was the green complexes, which are sloped and undulating, and slick. It has been rated as the toughest course in Utah, and plays to over 8,000 yards from the tips. Even though the ball flies further out there, that's still a long way!
