Powfoot is located in the southern boundaries os Scotland in an area known as Dumfries and Galloway, beautiful rolling countryside. The course was founded in 1903 and designed by James Braid It's a compact course, on only 100 acres, but doesn't feel like the holes are on top of each other. The first nine holes are more links like and the back a mixture of parkland with whins and rough. It's not an out and in usual links style and the parkland and links holes are intermixed creating a good amount of variety. The links part of the course follows the shoreline of the Solway Firth with views of the North Lakes mountains England's Cumberland Hills, and the hills adjacent to Dumfries. Just 80 yards in front of the 9th green is a huge crater, now a bunker, but was the result of a bomb dropped by a German bomber in WWII!. The course is enjoyable, yes there's a couple mundane holes, but at 6,226 yards, par 71 from the back tees, you'll score well if the wind isn't up. Play both here and Southerness for a nice combination of courses in the area.
