Porters Neck is a Tom Fazio design of 7,112 yards, 138 slope from the back tees. It's routed through a residential development on the north side of Wilmington, off Rt 17 at Kirkland. It's a private course, but they do allow outside play, just call in advance. Nice parkland style layout with tree lined, but open fairways off the tee, with Fazio's bunkers littering the landing areas, and greenside. Very upscale feel to the course, the facilities, and service was top notch. Fun and challenging course to play, not overly penal, but quality layout.

The rough is always rough, not like most courses in the area, it actually hurts to miss the short grass, the greens were rolling about 11 on the stimpmeter, with subtle and not so subtle breaks abound. Fazio design that really makes you manage your way around the course, regardless of handicap. There's not a better course in the Wilmington area, IMHO
