Poppy Hills has been one of the PGA Tour's Pebble Beach Pro Am's courses in February, and is routed through Del Monte Forest. The course is owned and operated by the Northern California Golf Association, and is a scenic and challenging course always in great condition. I believe it topped our experience Spanish Bay or Spyglass for conditions, layout quality, view and price. The course routing is parkland-like with very playable fairways, elevated, and quick greens, with a good amount of bunkering, a couple of water hazards. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr in 1984 and can play to 6800+ yards and 144 slope from the back tees. Best value for the quality of the layout in Pebble, especially if you book on GolfNow.

Play smart golf. Very few straight holes. Lots of doglegs, elevation changes, and fast [true] greens. At Poppy, keep in mind your next shot: Where do I want to put the ball in order to give myself the best chance of putting it close to the pin. Many of your second shots will require an extra club. The course is just shy of 7000 yds, but it plays well over with all the hills.

I enjoyed the golf course a lot, and the rate we paid through golfnow.com made it even better. This is a typical RTJ Jr. design. The fairways are very playable, the greens are far from small and there are only two water hazards on the whole course. It does have advantages over the PB Co. golf courses, most notably in price, but there is no way the views here top the ocean side views of Spyglass. Stop and play Poppy. The conditions are great, the golf course is a fun one, and it is the best value within the community of Pebble Beach.

My favorite course in the Monterey area, and the best value for greens fees. Be sure to play it soon, they're in for permits to renovate the course and it will be closing soon for up to a year.
