Penn National is southeast of Chambersburg near Mont Alto. There's two 18 hole championship courses here. The first to be built was the Founder's course designed by Ed Ault in 1968. It's a classic parkland type of course on rolling hills with tree lined fairways, moderate use of bunkering, and large contoured greens which area fast with good undulation. There's water in play on a few holes, and overall, it's a challenging and interesting course at almost 7000 yards with a 139 slope from the back tees. Iron Forge was designed by Bill Love, and opened for play in 1997, near the Michaux State Forest, in the foothills of South Mountain. In contrast to the Founder's course, it's more of a rolling links course, open, without many trees to affect play, and tight fairways bordered by tall fescue with water on maybe half dozen holes. From the tips it's 7000 yards, well bunkered, and good sized tiered greens. It's a great 36 hole day if you're lucky enough. A nice variety and different golf courses, very well conditioned, in a scenic setting.

Played the Founders course yesterday, one of the better price and values golf courses in this area to be sure. course The course is a test as always, plenty of challenge, but it was in great shape, and you can't beat the twilight rate of $36 after 2 p.m.
