Peacock Gap is in San Rafael on San Pablo Bay, north of downtown San Francisco. Short, parkland style of course, only 6200 yards for the black tees with 70.0/122 ratings/slope. The course was originally designed by William F. Bell in 1959 and remodeled with holes added by Forrest Richardson a couple of years ago. Some hilly holes, but overall flat, the contoured and undulating greens are the course's main defense, probably the toughest greens in the Bay area. There's some nice elevated tees, water in play, and tree lined fairways, with some houses in play potentially. But it's the greens, the tiered, lumpy, raised, not really fast, but the challenge of them gets into your mind after a while. Great conditions, pricey, but worth it for the challenge.

A true 1970s relic. The Pro Shop and what was once the club must have been state of the art in 1974 but looks like it hasn't had any investment since then. Experienced the grumpy greeting that others have experienced and the starter didn't seem to have any idea what was going on. Tight course with back to back fairways and surrounded by houses. Fairways have seen better days. Greens are ridiculous. Poor condition and some of them made the alps look flat. $50 for a midweek morning. Won't be going back.

Really nice golf course, but heard it had filed for bankruptcy. There were in the middle of a huge expansion program with clubhouse and facilities, but couldn't get the members to step up with additional dues. Fortunately it's still open to the pubic for a reasonable greens fee.
