Palm-Aire is a massive residential golf course community just west of I-95 between McNab Road and Atlantic in Pompano Beach that got started in the 1950's. There's a total of four 18 hole golf courses, semi-private, and open to public play. All of the courses are routed through mid-rise condos and single family home communities, most of which are out of play for the average golfer. The Cypress and Oaks are the best courses, the Palms a close second, and the Sabals an executive layout more for the beginners and higher handicappers. The Oaks is the premier layout, an original George Fazio design, redesigned by nephew Tom Fazio, it's 6,370 yards from the back tees, 70.8/125 ratings. The Cypress is a Fazio/Fazio design as well, opened in the early 1970's, and from the White tees plays 6o 6,051 yards, 70.6/134 ratings, par 71, and is the toughest layout of all, a little funky, small greens, tight approaches. The Palms course is the original course, designed by William Mitchell in the late 1950's, with a redesign by Karl Litten, from the White tees it's 6,363 yards, 70.3/118, good basic Florida style layout with sand and water throughout. All of the Palm-Aire courses tend to be a little pricey, when compared to other upscale courses in the market, and conditions aren't always top shelf. In terms of convenience though, it's right off I-95 and an easy off/on if you're just traveling through the area.
