The Paintsville Golf Course as been a fixture in Eastern Kentucky golf for years, just a classic old layout and setting on the Big Sandy River. The course has been around, originally as a 9 hole layout in the 1920's, with the second nine across the river opening later. It was designed by an Eastern Kentucky golf notable, Paul Hall, and has four tees from 4,600 to 6,300 yards. The front nine is routed over hills and hollers hills with a couple good elevation changes, while the back is flatter and has water in play with the river holes, streams and a lake. It's located between the Paintsville Lake State Park and the Jenny Wiley State Park and just off the US 23/Country Music Highway if you're passing through the area. The routing is tight tree lined fairways, small greens, and requires accuracy off the tee, and a solid short game to score well.. You must see the swinging bridge you cross in the golf cart to play holes number 10 through sixteen before crossing back to finish on seventeen and eighteen.
