Painted Dunes Desert Golf Course is located on the northwest outskirts of El Paso, and was designed by architects Ken Dye and Jeffrey Brauer. The course is a muni, but doesn't act or play like one.
It originally opened with 18 holes in 1991, and then another nine holes in 1999. The course is routed through mounded desert terrain with soft fairways and undulating greens, and plenty of bunkers. The course was cut out of the Chihuahan Desert, and sits at the foothills of the Franklin Mountains.
