Housing development course, northwest of the strip, designed by Jay Morrish in 1972, before his Weiskoph affiliation, and was the first desert course in LV. Even though it's in a development, the houses aren't right on the course, and don't distract. Greens are small and very well protected by numerous bunkers. Between the rough and the housing are waste areas that are desert vegetation and hard-pan that’s in play, but difficult to control. The fairways fairly wide, except for the occasional bunker. The course measures 6781 yards, par 72, handicap of 73.7, and a slope of 136 from the tips. Reasonably good shape as an American Golf managed course can be.

I loved this course! We played the course last Saturday morning, and the course was in near perfect condition. In fact, I would say the fairways were the best I’ve ever played on. They were smooth as glass, with just the perfect amount of give. I couldn’t have taken out more perfect divots with a surgical knife. Though I wouldn’t exactly call the course target golf like many holes at Badlands, most tee shots do require some precision. Many the holes were tree-lined, with a little bit of water sprinkled in for good measure. The putting green is right outside clubhouse, and the driving range is right next to the putting green. I think this is the most convenient arrangement of any course I can recall. The pace of play was also quite good for a very busy Saturday morning. It also didn’t hurt that Painted Desert also has some of the more reasonable rates in Vegas. Painted Desert won’t blow you away with it’s pristine conditions, but it is a sporty little track that won’t cost you an arm and a leg.
