Olivas Links is 40 minutes north of LA, and 30 minutes south of Santa Barbara, off the 101 freeway at Victoria, close to the Pacific at Ventura harbor. It's owned by the City of Ventura, so it's technically a muni, but the course quality and conditions are far from it. It's a Forest Richardson links style design of 6800 yards, 135 slope from the back tees. It's always windy here, being right on the Pacific. The front side is more open and shorter, a nice warm up to the tougher back side which requires accuracy off the tee with hazards and OB, not to mention the tall grass rough, which will cost you at least a stroke. Well conditioned course, reasonable pace of play, and good rates, also a great practice area.

Played Olivas yesterday. 58 degrees, overcast and winds about 15mph. Great course that was a ton of fun and with the number 4 pin placements quite a challenge from the blue tees. I was paired with a guy who was about a 6, I am an 8 and two ladies that are 25 handicaps. Everyone had fun and were able to get around the course with no problem. Says a lot given the diversity of the group.
