A must play course in southwestern Ireland with stunning scenery. It was developed in 1989, and designed by a quintet of architects, Ron Kirby, Joe Carr, Paddy Merrigan, Eddie Hackett, and Liam Higgins. It's not a links course, there's no dunes or undulating fairways, it's built on a 200 acre peninsula, 200-300 feet above the Atlantic, like a raised stage framed by craggy cliffs, and nine of the holes play along the edge. The course measures 7,215 yards at the tips, but there's a selection of teeing areas. There's some great holes with tees at the edge of bluffs to greens set at the precipice 200+ feet above the water. The fairways are somewhat wide and forgiving, but the wind can be fierce here without any natural protection from the land. It's expensive, but well conditioned, and a treat, like Pebble Beach to play at least once in your life.

The entire course is the only thing on a peninsula and it is the most beautiful golf course in the world. this course puts Pebble Beach to shame. Every hole has a spectacular view of the ocean and the light house on the 18th is its signature hole

Spectacular location, but the course really didn’t live up to the hype for me. Yes, there’s a few great holes, but in my opinion, they missed a great opportunity here with the setting to create a fabulous layout, won’t make the trip down again.

Fantastic golf course, incredible scenery, over the top expensive. The wind was howling, the rain was pelting us sideways, but we were loving every minute of our experience at Old Head. Immaculate conditions, a spectacular setting, and expensive!
