Old Corkscrew is a Jack Nicklaus design through the Florida swamp in Estero, off I-75 between Ft. Myers and Bonita Springs. It's probably the toughest, most expensive, and well conditioned course open to the public in Southwest Florida. They're trying to be a private club so the rates at high, trying to keep the public play down, and it might be worth it to play it once. Just a gorgeous design with water on almost every hole, and sculptured long and deep bunkers along the fairways and greens. The greens are mid to large sized, somewhat elevated, and with good undulations and fast for Florida Not that many play it from here, but the tips are 7393 yards,142 slope with three other tees, no houses or development, just golf in a pristine environment. Mostly parkland style with tree lined or natural areas bordering the undulating fairways. A pleasure to play in this environment, well conditioned, won't be available for public play long.

Corkscrew is the best "accessible" course in SW Florida. I played it last year and although I scored horrendous, it was May time and really humid it was a pure beauty, the practice ground alone is worth visiting. If you are going to play the longer tees i'd take more long clubs than wedges :) I always seemed to be two club lengths out!

It was brown like every other course that didn’t overseed; but, it played fine. The greens were rock hard and extremely fast. Had a couple of 4putts, greens fees were expensive, but it was a quality layout without a lot of homes along the course.

Played Old Corkscrew Golf Club in Estero, Florida over the weekend. WOW! A beautifully designed track and one of the nicest and certainly most interesting and challenging I have ever played in Florida. 7393 from the tips with a 76.9/148 slope rating. 6617 from the Blues with a rating of 73.4/140 slope...this is in Florida folks. The course has everything, wild terrain, multiple lakes separating holes, tall pines framing most holes, wild flowers, fescue and the most multi-tiered, undulating greens I have ever seen. So far, no development so there are no buildings in sight bordering the course with the exception of one hole where you see a large equipment shed. At $80 for the round with cart and access to the practice facilities, it was a bargain, compared to Tiburon at the Ritz Carlton in Naples! What a find. You will not be disappointed. Staff is great and takes great pride in how you enjoyed yourself. Cart girls are knock outs.

Great layout, a number of heoric holes, well conditioned, and the rates were lower this Fall than last year. Also, had time for lunch at the restaurant in the clubhouse, Merlo's Grill, very nice menu and service. Well done overall.

If you are travelling to Naples, play this course. The course is located just south of Ft. Myers Airport, the airport used to fly into Naples, FL. The course is about 8 miles inland from the highway in the middle of nowwhere. What a find. You will not be disappointed. Staff is great and takes great pride in how you enjoyed yourself. Mark in the pro shop helps in any way. Cart girls are knock outs.

Great course and layout, was in good condition, was able to play for less than $100 on summer rates. Very challenging layout if you can't keep the ball on the fairways, the wetlands and water tend to eat the balls here, a must play if you can afford it.

Played yesterday, they had just punched the greens earlier in the week, and gave us a bounce back coupon, but wish they'd have let us know beforehand. Had never played here before, so it was a bit of a disappointment, but will be back.
