Oak Grove is about 1 1/2 hours from downtown Chicago. It's northwest of town toward lake Geneva, and near the Wisconsin border, near Harvard, IL This is maybe one of the better courses in Chicagoland, if it were closer to the city, it would be better regarded. It's a challenging layout that requires good accuracy off the tee and on approach to the greens, and you'll end up using most every club or shot you have. It's a good course for all levels of play, depending on the tee box you select, and is mostly straightforward parkland style of layout, tree lined fairways, wetlands, well bunkered, and with some movement in the land. They say it's one of the toughest courses in the area, and it plays from 6,631 from the championship tees, 138 slope, and 73.1 course rating, and was designed by Steve Halberg in the late 1990's. Terrific challenge, and lots of fun to play, it makes you pay attention!

Oak Grove was a very nice course, and can be a bit mean as well. It is nice to play through the hills of Northern Illinois. The greens were very fast and rolled smooth. The fairways were in excellent condition. So, how was it mean you ask...wetlands, wetlands, wetlands. There were places to lose a ball on almost every hole, especially on the Back nine. Still, for only $55 a bargain for sure. It will not likely return to the tour however as all six golfers drove almost two hours for the pleasure.

The course is in great condition. The best part has to be the greens. They are running fast and true. There is absolutely nothing to complain about at this course right now.
