Located near Nottingham, England, The Club was formed in 1887 and played for years on the public commons until they caused such a nusiance to the locals using the land for more industrious pursuits, the Club elected to build a golf course in the bracken covered slopes at Kirkby Forest. They contracted with Willie Park Jr to design the course which opened in 1901. The course plays long and difficult. There's a brief and welcomed respite at #8's famous 'Holy Well, how Hollinwell derives its name. After the intimidating drive across the water and between the trees, the player should be sure to go down into the well, and take a drink from the metal cup on the chain..part of a long standing tradition at Notts. Notts has a varied terrain, holes that are heathland in character , holes of a wooded nature, and holes that attack the hills, and plays to just over 7100 yards, a strong test.

A wonderful experience which starts when you drive through the stand of pines and the clubhouse and course first comes into view. A magnificent course which demands every shot in the book and a sure touch on subtle greens. Very friendly staff.

We played with a gent who walked us down a rocky path into where we could hear water trickling, and handed us a tin cup that was sitting on a small rock shelf there. He told us to drink from the spring that use to nourish the monks from the abbey nearby during the Middle Ages, sure beats anything we experience in the States.
