Northwood is up in Rhinelander, the northern part of Wisconsin, about 3 1/2 hours north of Madison. Appropriately named golf course, cut literally through the north woods of Wisconsin, pure golf no homes, and very tight tree lined fairways. The course was designed by Don Herfort and opened in 1989, and has hilly and sloping fairways with water in play on seven holes, and moderately bunkered. Reasonably priced greens fees at less than $30 when we played, from the back tees it's 6724 yards, par 72, with a course rating of 73.1, and a slope of 140, but has three shorter tee boxes.

With a little work, this course could be in great shape. The fairways are a little furry, and the greens need to be rolled. This is a short, tight course. A true shot makers course.
