North Shore is up in Sneads Ferry off US 17 near N Topsail Beach, about 30 minutes north of Wilmington. The course is routed through a residential development, but on the outskirts of it, so there's only homes on one side of maybe half the holes, the rest are open and isolated, and bordered by wetlands From the back tees, the course plays to 6866 yards, 139 slope, and 73.1 course rating. Half of the holes are laid out along the Intracoastal Waterway, the balance through the trees, makes for reasonably wide landing areas, but the approaches to the greens are tight with a lot of sand. The course was designed by Bob Moore The greens were in good shape, fairly good sized, and moderate undulation. Nice warm up course for some of the area's tougher courses, and a nice setting to boot.

Just played North Shore after their conversion to Champions Bermuda, wow! what an improvement, conditioning was excellent throughout, thought the greens would be hard, but they were holding fine.

It has a nice combination of links-style holes (especially on the back nine) and foresty holes. I would categorize it as tough but fair -- a couple of the holes are pretty punishing from the tips, but all the trouble is laid out clearly in front of you. Wind is definitely a factor, and as the op pointed out, this course is right up against tidal marsh areas and holds a lot of moisture. It plays longer than the yardage. One minor beef -- the yardage markers were accurate, but few and far between. But generally speaking, a very nice area golf course

North Shore was one of the more enjoyable courses we played on our trip. It was very playable and fair, well conditioned, a good combination of challenging holes, and some where you could catch your breath.
