The North River Club is one of the better golf courses in the immediate area, too bad it's so far from the Triangle, and is always a course I'd drive out of my way to play. It's part of a residential development east of Beaufort on Route 70 by about 3 miles. It can play to 7,210 yards,74.5/143 ratings from the black tees, but with four shorter tee boxes down to 5,000 yards. It was designed by Bob Moore and is a very challenging and strategic layout with plenty of sand, waste and traditional, trees, and water on seven holes. The greens are good sized, well guarded and with good undulating. It's a tough layout for beginners, but if you're 15 handicap and below, you'll enjoy the challenge of this golf course.
