Nippersink Country Club

Nippersink is an old golf resort in the Lake Geneva area, just north of the IL/WI line on US 12 at Genoa City. The golf course is from the 1920's, designed by James Foulis Jr., and was always a classic and worth the long drive up from Chicago. It's a big parkland style of layout with tree lined fairways, an out in the country feel, and easily walkable. Unfortunately though, the place, both hotel and golf course has sunk into a sad state. There were brown and barren spots on the fairways, and it was hard to tell where the fairways left off and rough started. The tees were full of weeds, and the sand traps were full of water from a storm a couple of days ago. The pro shop is tucked into the corner of a bar, the people working the course act like the course looks! The place has so much potential, it's a shame to see it go so downhill. Once you get out on the course, and can tolerate the conditions, there are some good holes. Number 2 is a par 3 of 201 yards requiring a tee shot through a narrow entry between two big trees, with a small green tucked between. No. 7 is a beauty of a par 3 of just 152 yards with a tee shot over a pond to a round green fronted by two traps. 16 is the toughest par 3 of them all—211 yards uphill to a green that is semi-blind. Never liked 18, a 415 dogleg through the trees and gullies, with a blind shot to the green. From the tips, the course plays to 6,638 yards, par 71, with a 70.8 course rating, and a 121 slope. I don't plan on playing here again soon, but hope they start putting some money and care back into this course, then I'll be back!
