The New Zealand Golf Club is southwest of London, off the M-25 near Woking. It's a classic parkland style course, originally built in the 1890's by S Mure Fergusson with further design work by Tom Simpson. The course is routed over what's mostly flat land with tree lined corridors of trees, apparently cut out of the middle of a forest. Understated, but classic clubhouse, friendly welcome in the golf shop, and reasonably priced to play. The layout was challenging, especially the bunkering, which presented a number of actual and perceived challenges by the way they were shaped and positioned. Although it's relatively short on yardage, it starts out in stout fashion for a couple of holes, and then gets a little bland for a while, but the 12-18 is a special stretch, especially the closing holes. Don't be deceived about the par 68 and a breath under 6000 yards, it's a challenging layout by all accounts. .
