The Naples Beach Hotel Golf Course is the old classic and original golf course in Naples. It's between Tamiami and Golf Shores Blvd just north of downtown Naples. The course is of a traditional, Florida style, flat, water in play on all but half dozen holes, sand mostly around the greens, palm tree lined fairways, small to mid-sized greens. It was originally built in the 1920’s and was redesigned in 1946 by Henry B. Watkins, Sr, by Mark Mahannah in 1948, then later again by Ron Garl in 1980, 1993 and 1998. From the tips it's not all that long at 6,488 yards, 71.7/134 slope, and is a reasonably challenging course. There's been a number of newer, and upscale courses built in Naples which overshadow this one at the same or even lower prices, and conditions are beginning to suffer somewhat here. Enjoyable and convenient nonetheless.

Course just reopened after renovations, conditions were good, but not excellent, they need some time to grow in. It had gotten to be a bit tired and with the new greens last year and this upgrade to the fairways, the course should be in great shape later on this year.

Summer's the best time to play here, if you play early to beat the heat. Old style Florida resort course, was in good condition yesterday, and played in under 4 hours, however we were the second group out. A simple, traditional design, the course placement, not necessarily long tee shots. Various holes wind around lakes with fairways bordered by palm trees. It’s a great course to walk because the greens and tees are situated near each other, unlike most of the other courses in the area.

We play Naples GC once a year when in SW FLA. This is a beautiful course which some say is an equal to some of the other high profile courses in town. Well, this year the fairways were not up to their normal high standards(many of the approach areas had a lot of filled divot holes), and the greens were riddled with ball marks, many of them unrepaired. If I was paying as much as I know they ask for weekdays and weekends, I would have been disappointed.
