Nags Head Golf Links is along 158 in south Nags Head, north of the Washington Baum Bridge. It's a open links style course designed by Bob Moore that plays to 6126 yards, 130 slope from the back tees. It's a tough layout, always affected by the wind coming off the Roanoke Sound, and the Atlantic, and the tight fairways with native beach scrub bordering. Water is some form is in play on 14 holes, and the course is routed around a residential real estate development, and the houses sometimes do come into play, at least with my game. Very well conditioned, run by Club Corp, private, yet allows public play, rates are reasonable for the general area, but playing at twilight can save you.

It's a very gimmicky course. It has great views but it has a high price tag and the course just is not fun. There is always a very strong wind coming off the sound and the course has never been in that good of shape each time I've played. I personally will never play there again.

Ahhhh, what could have been...the course has all the attributes of links golf, ie sandy soil, windy spot, etc, but unfortunately it's a development course, and they butchered it when the community was developed. Short, quirky, windy, great in spots, etc. #1 is good fun as a drivable par 4.

It was very much target golf with narrow fairways. The wind was enough of a factor that downclubbing one wasn't enough on some holes. I went there as a single walk-in, and got right on at 12 noon. The fee was $100 which was reasonable in my opinion, the greens were in good shape, not too fast. Pace-of-play was right at 4.5 hours, and it wasn't too crowded. I would play it again.
