Moon Valley is a private golf club, but open for unaccompanied guest, and really not all that expensive when you consider the other high profile courses in town. It's on the north side of Phoenix off I-17 at Thunderbird to the east and north on Moon Valley Drive. The course was originally designed by Dick Wilson in the 1960's with redesign work by Bob Cupp. From the tips the course plays to 7,057 yards with a 74.3/125 course/slope rating. It's a classic old Phoenix area golf club routed through a residential development, a real private club feel to it, well maintained, with a nice clubhouse and restaurant/patio overlooking the 18th. The course was fair and straightforward, and in excellent shape with greens that putt true and hold well. The fairways are wide and forgiving off the tee, a little water in play, good amount of bunkers, with a routing that's more parkland style than the usual desert type of course in Phoenix. The greens were mid-sized with a moderate amount of undulation, and good speed. Overall enjoyable experience, and nice break from the usual high energy courses in the area. .
