Montrose is halfway between Dundee and Aberdeen, Scotland on the A-92 coast road. There are two 18 hole courses here, the 4,800 Broomfield, and the Medal Championship course. Golf's been played here for more than 400 years, and the club is the 5th oldest in the world. It's relatively unsung, but at 6,230 yards, par 71, Willie Park, Jr layout, but is well regarded enough in Scotland to be a final qualifier when the Open is held at Carnoustie. The start is rather mundane, and the real linksland you see, rolling sandy hills and terrain won't come into play until the 11th hole. You will find the classic links features, heavy fescue and heather rough with gorse. The wind is a factor, especially since the holes change direction frequently instead of the normal links out and in routing. It was in good links form this summer, hard and fast fairways and greens, fairly thick rough, and in decent condition.
