Let's hope they reopen, it was a great golf course
Montesoro is the new Fazio designed at the Borrego Ranch Resort & Spa, it's an expensive proposition, and you need to stay here to play the course. It's routed through this to be resort/residential community, which may not be going anywhere for a while, and is surrounded by the Santa Rosa Mountains with great views throughout the course. It hasn't been rated as of yet, but it can play to just over 7,000 yards from the tips down to 5,500 yards. The routing has a good amount of elevation change here you wouldn't expect with the fairways bordered by desert scrub, rocks, brush, and some nice landscaping. It's typical Fazio tough with water, a lot of bunkering, and tricky greens, with "creative" pin placements. The course is up in the Borrego Springs area, about 80 miles northeast of San Diego and borders the Anzo-Borrego Desert State Park. A real experience, played here in the late afternoon after it was cooling off, the colors were spectacular, and the wildlife was starting to come out. Highly recommend!

Montesor is in the middle of nowhere. I thought the golf course was very nice; the bunkers were the new Fazio style which is quite nice; the greens had undulations and were very quick, every tee shot was interesting with some kind of shot to be played, and the approaches were good looking with nice elevation changes. Not sure how long they can keep the course in as good as shape as it was in, excellent time here, well worth the trip from Palm Springs.

Fantastic golf course and setting, but very expensive. You'd think with the economy in the pits, they'd want to increase play here. The pace of play was not well managed, didn't see a range all day, but the cart girl was plentiful. Would recommend this course if you're in the area, they do have lower rates in the afternoon.
