Metamora Fields Golf Course

Metamora Fields is a links-style layout northeast of Peoria in Metamora. We found the course to be in good condition for the time of year, and thought the rates were a bit on the high side, but notice they do have lower rates in off-peak hours. It was designed by D.A. Weibring, and Steve Wolfard, and is wide open to the elements, a few holes with water in play, and a moderate amount of sand. The course just opened in 2011, and is rough around the edges, but has a lot of potential. We only played the 9 holes which were open, the other nine to open in September. Seemed very playable and straightforward, but has a number of risk/reward opportunities if you choose an alternative route for a potential birdie. It will be a long one at 7,100 yards from the tips, but we played from the middle tees at 6,200+ yards. The fairways were generous, the greens mostly open in the front, and it allows you to swing away freely off the tee. The fairways played firm and fast, with lots of roll. The rough is thick and healthy, the bunkers are deep with white sand, the greens — some large, some small — have lots of undulations and were difficult to hold, given this is their first year.
