Melrose is a beautiful Jack Nicklaus layout on Daufuskie Island, just off Hilton Head that was closed for a while, but now reopened. The course is spectacular, the ferry ride over to the island provides a nice break with some great scenery, takes less than an hour. Everything is shut down except the marina, restaurant, and golf course. Conditions of the golf course and range were unbelievably pristine, the layout superb, and you have it to your self. The finish with the oceanside holes 16, 17, and 18 with views of the Atlantic and Savannah was well worth the trip. It's a challenging routing through salt marshes and dunes with small target greens, and is a 139 slope from the tips. We played from the middle tees at 6688 yards, 72.4 course rating and a 130 slope, lost a few balls, but had a blast.

....it just aint simple" to arrange. So here ya go.....a way to play this fine course that has three (3) holes running directly on the ocean. Part A ....Call 1-843-422-6963 "The makeshift Pro Shop" and you will get Susan or Ron. Set a T Time and then go to "Part B". Part B....Call Daufuskie Discoveries at 1-843-384-4354 and arrange for your private boat directly from Hilton Head or Savannah. Part A...the pro shop folks will pick you up and assist with a timely return. So there you have it.....Not "simple" as stated but an adventure that you will cherish and enjoy.

Thferry over was euphoria transportation to the teeing grounds designed by the great Jack Nicholas himself and once I stepped on the practice range, I was just taken by the beauty and knew the golf gods were looking down on me this day. There is way to much beauty abound and it is one of the most quite places I have been to, just realizing that makes the point of just how still, minus the Spanish Moss, swaying from the love oaks, really is. The course is spectacular and is worth every cent of the $80.00 to play-do not plan your Hilton Head golf trip without making certain that you can work Melrose into the schedule! It really is that good.
