The course is in the Palmetto Bluff Resort just off 278/46, west of Hilton Head. It's a great golf course in a beautiful setting along the May River, designed by Jack Nicklaus, and stretching to 7,171 yards from the back tees with a 140 slope and a 75.4 course rating, but has 4 other sets of tees. The course was in pristine condition this fall, has a great clubhouse and setting, and guest service that's first class. The course routing is along the river and through the forest, with open landing areas bordered by a good amount of bunkering and natural mitigation areas with a number of forced carries. The greens are well guarded, with a good amount of break and moderate speed. This course is worth the drive out of Hilton Head, even off I-95 if you're passing by the area.

Excellent shot values, with a good amount of risk-reward scenarios, but user-friendly. There's bail-outs on every hole to give the average golfer the opportunity to enjoy it. Great practice facility and short game area, and the 19th hole in a nice setting overlooking the ninth and 18th greens in one direction and the practice range and first tee in another with an outside deck. Very well done, in excellent shape.

Course condition has detriorated somewhat since last June. Fairways are still excellent, but several greens are showing some tears and bare spots. Sand in the green side bunkers has compacted, leaving only about an inch of loose sand on top. Some thin spots in the rough. Snack bar is still excellent.
