Masonboro CC is on the south side of Wilmington, off the Caroline Beach Road/US 421 at The Cape Blvd, west to the golf course. Hands-down probably the best public access course in the Wilmington area, although the new Cape Fear will give it a run for the money. The routing is through an upscale residential neighborhood, parkland style with trees lining the fairways, plenty of water and white sand bunkers, a nice contrast. Very upscale club, open to the public, but it's expensive. The course was originally designed by Gene Hamm when it was known as the Cape Golf Club, Bob Moore redesigned and renovated it when they changed the name to Masonboro. 7,000 yards from the tips, but with four shorter sets of tees, play shorter than you usually do to enjoy the course more. Outstanding golf course, beautiful setting, lots of risk/reward, very challenging overall.
