Marion Lake Club is on Marion Lake, use exit 94 off I-40, then north to NC 126, about an hour east of Asheville, 30 minutes west of Morganton, not all that far off the Interstate. The golf club has been around since the 1920's, but Russell Breeden designed the existing layout in the 1950's. It's true hidden gem with wonderful scenery, and especially beautiful in the Fall. It's not long at just 6,300 yards from the tips with a par of 70, 69.0 course rating and 115 slope. Parkland style of layout with a wide variety of interesting and fun holes. It's private, but open to public play, rates are fair, but you will likely need a cart as it's somewhat hilly. Great views of the Linville Gorge and Shortoff Mountain, just a treat to play and enjoy the setting.
