Malibu is a great, tight layout up in the Santa Monica Mountains. It's an old classic designed by William Bell with tree lined fairways, and small, fast greens, and is 6600 yards from the back tees. Reasonable rates, not too crowded, except for the weekends, and in decent shape overall.

Course is in really great shape! The layout is very good as a good player can make birdie on just about any hole if played perfectly. At the same time watch out for the easy double bogey that can get you pretty quick too. Good shots are always rewarded; it's easy to get in trouble, too. Overall I consider the course challenging but very fair. Elevation changes and subtle greens make club selection and putt-reading challenging but fun. A really solid golf course and a highly enjoyable round, hit a bucket of balls before you come out, there's no range here.

The course has a neat routing through rolling hills and red rock along the chaparral, with major elevated tees that let the tee shot seem to soar forever. It's like a stroll in a nature preserve with wildlife galore, and very well landscapted, a definite hidden gem.
