Leslie Park Golf Course is the best muni I've ever played. It's north of downtown Ann Arbor, and is located on Traver Road, just east of Barton Drive. It opened in 1967 and was designed by Larry Packard and with later renovations in 1995 by Arthur Hills. It's a par 72, with water in play on 6 holes, from the back tees it's 6522 yards, 129 slope, and 72 course rating. Extremely well maintained, a great variety of holes, and some of the lowest greens fees in the area. Be prepared for slow play though, that's the only downside here.

Leslie's season is coming to a close (Nov., 2012) and big things are happening there. As part of a countywide effort to improve the water quality in the Huron River, extensive work is ongoing at Leslie. The ponds on #17 and #12 are being dredged and Traver Creek, the stream that runs between #10 and #13, is getting a makeover to reduce flooding and erosion. Right now it is a big mess but with luck we will see improved water quality and a more interesting back nine in 2013.

Played here March 31, 2011, and the conditions were excellent for the time of year. The course had drained well and the only soggy areas were where drainage was designed and/or spots near Traver Creek. Green showed no damage and had healed from the fall aeration. For March they rolled well. Checkout the course superintendant's blog: www.treetownturfguy.blogspot.com
