Two 18 hole courses here, on Green Lake, just west of Oshkosh. The initial course here was the Links course is 6466 yards and 128 slope from the middle tees, was designed by William Langford and Theodore Moreau and built in 1930 on the former Victor Lawson estate, one of the Chicago Daily News founders. It's really a links style course which mimics the British links courses with wide open and hard mounded and contoured fairways and greens, and virtually without trees. The purists who love links golf will really appreciate this course, and it's worth coming out of the way to play. Wind comes into play due to green elevations and the open nature of the land. The routing has a number of fairway and greenside bunkers-90 in total, but the greens are open in front to allow the bump and run shot. It slightly hilly terrain, greens which are elevated, mounded collars, and multi-tiered, and fast. You'll notice here that there's a stretch of holes 9th-14th which are pars 5-3-5-3-5-3, were created by laying the course out with the land as it was instead of trying to balance out the scorecard. Overall the course has five par threes, five par fives, and eight par fours. In contrast, the Woodlands course is 6186 yards, 125 slope pure parkland style course with tight tree lined fairways and 80 bunkers around the landing areas or greenside. .It was designed by Joe Lee and Rocky Roquemore and is a very scenic track with water comes into play on four holes. Both courses are very well maintained, and reasonably priced greens fees.

The old south nine, (The Woodlands front nine) is not a bad nine holes at all. The quarry hole is great as is the drop shot par 3. However, It's the back nine, the final nine built, where the Woodlands problems lie. There's no cohesiveness, or even an attempt at making that nine fit the whole. It may not be a bad nine holes of golf, but it pales in comparison to the pre-existing 27 holes here. Flag Content
Lawsonia was playing quite fast and firm. Greens were excellent and very good speed, faster than normal. The quicker greens did make it more fun, and much more difficult. Flag Content
